This past weekend was one of the best weekends that I’ve had in a while. I really don’t get out much, especially since my husband works on Saturday until midnight. That doesn’t really leave any time for us to do anything unless we have a morning date. At any rate, it started off with receiving our new refrigerator! If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen my story about our refrigerator dying. We’ve had that refrigerator longer than we’ve had our son. I guess it was time for a new one. And I’ve come to realize that there are so many things that we take for granted. My son aptly expressed the situation by saying, “I know it’s only the fridge that isn’t working but it feels like we don’t have power either.” Oddly enough, that is kind of what it felt like. I didn’t cook that week because if we had leftovers we wouldn’t have anywhere to store them. Eventually, we ended up storing some of our food in our neighbor’s refrigerator and freezer. Some food that was in the freezer that didn’t stay frozen in the cooler with the ice had to be thrown out. Fortunately, we didn’t have a whole lot of meat in there. This was a good time to have needed to go shopping but that I didn’t actually do it. The really nice thing was the timing. I had to take the loaner car back to the dealer because I was having service done on my car. When I returned, voila! We had a new fridge!
Ok, that was Friday. On Saturday I took my son and five of his friends to Mastermind Escape Games. His birthday was last month and because of a myriad of things, mostly scheduling, we couldn’t celebrate then. Better to celebrate late than not at all. Anyway, three of the boys rode with me and the other two met us at the facility. On the way there, all the boys were playing games on their phones and talking junk to each other as they did this. Is this how 14 -year-old boys commune now? Once we arrived at the facility and I was able to pry them from their phones, we made our way in. I had to fill out waivers for all of them and they had a little bit of horseplay while they waited. To be honest, they are not bad kids at all. They just have a lot of energy and always want to play fight. I told them while they are under my supervision that there will be no horseplay or fighting because I was not returning anyone’s child harmed in any way.
If you’ve ever been to an escape room, you know that they give you a briefing of what not to do. They also give you five minutes to go through a series of locks to become acquainted with them as many of them are used in the room. I must say that I was rather impressed by their abilities. The funny thing is that since there were seven of us, there were three women who also booked the room and they were all teachers of middle school children. I felt so much better because they knew what to expect out of six, fourteen-year-olds. Surprisingly, the boys were quite helpful. They found all types of clues just by letting their energy flow. Now, there was a lot of yelling and jumping up and down. There were even a few shrieks from time to time and many, many jokes. Only a few times did we have to redirect them to the task at hand. You probably figured that we didn’t escape and you would be correct. I must say that we did get further along than I thought we would. The escape room worker who came in after our time was up stated that we probably could have gotten further along if we had a few less boys. That, I must agree with and I know exactly which ones.
After we lost, we took a picture of shame and waited in the parking lot for two of the boys’ fathers to pick them up. From there, we went home. And I’m sure you can guess what they did. Ding, ding, ding, if you said: “played video games”. I then cooked them something to eat while we waited for their parents to come and get them. Considering I was invited to the movies with my best friend and other friends I couldn’t stay the entire time. They hung out with my husband, who was working downstairs until their parents came to get them. The movie I went to see was Aladdin. I just love Will Smith, as does my best friend. As we watched in reclined seats, she sang along to the songs and even applauded at certain moments. She really loves musicals too. After that, we went to Taco Mac where they got a bite to eat. Since I had already eaten, I just had water. I was amazingly thirsty and somewhat dehydrated. So much so that I was experiencing muscle spasms in my feet during the movie. That part wasn’t fun but it didn’t stop the party.
And on Sunday, I went to the Women’s Expo downtown at the Georgia World Congress Center with another friend of mine. The most difficult thing about going down there was finding parking that wasn’t $20. We had a great time and got lots of information, as well as samples of products we were interested in. We even received complimentary massages. This was also a great place to do some people watching. One last thing, have you all seen this glitter lipstick? If not, it is definitely a site. I saw ruby red glitter lips, emerald green glitter lips, pretty pink glitter lips. I’m sorry, I’m just not that girly, but my friend was. I think that was probably the busiest booth there.
It really was a great weekend and no, I don’t have any pictures of it. I did take some pics of the boys but I don’t have permission to share their faces. As for the other outings I had, I was living in the moment and not even thinking about taking pictures. All photographers don’t take pictures of everything all the time. All I know is that I had a fantastic time. I hope you all had a fantastic weekend as well. If not, you’ve got plenty more weekends to practice with.
