So, if you’ve been following my blog for awhile, you know that I have a book coming out. I actually finished the writing the book and was on the verge of having it published when I realized that I didn’t like the cover image I had chosen. That was a bummer. The cover I chose was really cute but it just didn’t fit the book to me. I guess it was because I selected an image I already had instead of photographing specifically for the cover. This past weekend I decided to photograph specifically for the cover.
Prior to this past weekend, I thought about what image I did want. Initially, I thought about using myself as the model but I nixed that idea. Even though I could have executed it I think it would have been a little more difficult to bring to fruition. For me, I like being able to see my vision through my viewfinder, not guess at it. There are plenty of photographers who are more adept at self-portraits than I, so I will leave that to them. Besides, I felt that being able to direct my vision required less trial and error.
Once I decided that I was going to get a model, I had to decide who I wanted. Just so happens, there’s this lovely 15-year-old young lady named Isabella that I have been mentoring. She has natural hair and that’s what my book is about, so I thought she would be perfect and she was! It was about 2:00 pm so it was a bit warm. The bugs were out but fortunately, there didn’t seem to be any mosquitos out. Well, none that I know of because I had on insect repellent and Isabella nor her mom complained about any. However, Isabella did accidentally walk through a spider web and other insects were trying to be her friend. Let’s just say that Isabella is not insect-friendly at all. A few times insects had to be removed from either her person or the sheet she was sitting on. Aside from that, everything was great. The shade was really nice too. I just wanted to share a few images from our session. At the writing of this blog, I have yet to pick the image for the cover but at least I have a few options to select from. Once my book is published, I’ll make sure to announce it so you can grab a copy or two!
