Happy New Year! Yes, I know it has been a week since New Year’s Day but the year is still new. Did you make a new year’s resolution? As always, mine is the same…to be happy. Being happy is the ultimate goal for me. What’s the point of living if you can’t be happy doing it? Along with this resolution, I have adopted a word for the year and that word is “intentionality”. I want to be more intentional in everything that I do. Prior to this year, I was intentional, up to a point. What I needed to do was plan my intentions all the way through for a desired result. To be honest, that didn’t always happen. My method was more of “I’m going to do A and hope that B happens.” That’s not really how it should be. I think for a while now I have been looking for my voice and I believe that I have found it.
Regarding my photography and my life, I have been very accepting of what other people think and their ideas. Sure, there were times when I was totally not on board but most of the time I went with the flow. That’s not necessarily a problem in my photography since I do like collaboration but sometimes I want to go in a different direction. With that said, it caused me to sometimes photograph without an exact plan. Basically, instead of photographing for a product that would fit my client, I was just photographing to please my clients with no particular end game in sight, except for them to purchase something. Anyone with a business that sells actual products want their clients to make a purchase but shouldn’t we also try to make the purchase easier for them?
Beginning this year, I will have different session types that I believe will appeal to my clients, as well as to me. For those who wish to have wall art of their children, I will be offering the Modern Art session. This session is for the client who wants art pieces but leaves all of the styling up to me. I will provide the clothing and even a hairstylist if desired. This session can also work with maternity portraits. The goal here is to decorate the walls with beautiful, unique portraits. Next, I have the Me, Myself & I session. This is best for portraits of a single child. The final product will be one large piece of wall art with three different versions of the child that showcase three parts of their personality. It would make for a fabulous conversation piece. This session allows for input from the parents and the child, depending on how old they are. Lastly, is the Fun & Fabulous session. This is a regular portrait session where you can create the package that you want and is more collaborative still. I guess it would be considered how I currently photograph. All sessions are still fun and they all come with the convenience of me coming to you for the session, the reveal, and the delivery.
I don’t know about you, but I’m really excited to see what this new year will bring. Oh, I almost forgot! I’ve also joined forces with Diversity Photos. They provide images of people of color for stock photography. Evidently, there is a shortage of these types of images, so they are there to fill the gap and represent the underrepresented. If you click on their link that I added, you might see someone you know! Well, until next week…don’t forget, sharing is caring unless it’s the flu because no one wants that!
