It’s a new year and it might be time for many of you to have your headshots updated. I can go on LinkedIn and pick out numerous people who need to update their headshots or just get new images in general. Believe it or not, there are people who have uploaded selfies or even pictures from a party where they cropped other people out of that image. Really? Is that what we do? I understand that sometimes people just don’t have the money to get a professional headshot done but they can at least have a friend take a picture of them to post. Ok, getting down off of my soapbox.
So, last month I photographed my makeup artist for a branding session. She just recently relocated her office to a new space in Tucker where she had her open house. In addition to her makeup services, she has a spa. Her spa is called Beauty by Bowers Spa and it is located at 2310 2nd Street, Tucker, GA. 30084.
It’s in the cute, little renovated house. When you enter, it is so cozy and warm, just like Jamecia. If you haven’t met her, she is the sweetest thing. Her smile can light up a room and you can’t help but smile with her.
She and I have been working together for years. A client of hers referred her to me. This was before I had ever considered adding an MUA to my list of services. I quickly realized that this would be part of my value proposition. Women usually want makeup for their session so, I try to make it easy and convenient for them to have that done, plus, I trust her work. We had a great time. I wanted to make sure that I showed her personality and I wanted to capture some images of her working, as well. When you have branding portraits taken, it is very important to be yourself. You need to exude who you are, otherwise, people can feel duped when they meet you in person. One of the models we used for the session stated that she was told that she needed to be “extra” in her portraits. I asked her if she was “extra” and she said no. Then don’t show people who you are not. Hopefully, soon you will be seeing branding images of her from me.
Anyway, we had a ball! Jamecia confessed to me that she doesn’t really like having her picture taken because she tends not to like the images that are captured. I appreciate her honesty, especially since I don’t like having my picture taken either. In a way, my feeling awkward in front of the camera is my superpower. I can empathize with my subject and put them at ease because I know exactly how they feel. The best part about photographing people who don’t like being photographed is that after it’s over they tell me they had fun. In fact, Jamecia said she can’t wait to do it again! That is the best endorsement. By the way, she loved her portraits. I think it actually surprised her a little bit. I did show her some images on the back of my camera during the session, so she had an idea of what they looked like. I think she was more surprised by how many she actually liked.
Below are a few of the images from the session that show who she is and what she does. If you’re looking for an excellent MUA or spa, please look up Jamecia. She’s on IG as @beautybybowers or you can visit her website at: www.beautybybowerspa.com. You will not be disappointed. Oh, and if you’re in need of new headshots or branding portraits, you know where to find me! Remember, sharing is caring unless you have the flu.
