I’m sure that you’ve heard the phrase, “You’re never too old to try something new”. Well, it’s true. I have been in business for 18 years and now, I have decided to change a few things regarding my business. This has been mentioned a few times by me in other posts and my monthly newsletter. Just so you all know, I am a true artist because planning is simply not my thing. If it was totally required, I can plan something, I just prefer not to. Reason being, I feel that the inspiration that I receive is much better than anything I could ever plan but life doesn’t work like that.
First off, I just purchased a new CRM for my business. I’m believing that most people who read my blog know what a CRM is but for those who don’t, it’s a Client Relationship Manager. I’ve used the same one for years and years but realized after business course I was taking, that it was not fulfilling the tasks as efficiently as it should. Previously, it was fine but now that I know what is available I realized that it was time to move on. This change should streamline my business and certain mundane tasks don’t have to occupy my time.
Secondly, my focus is changing in regards to my actual photography. Even though I will continue to photograph maternity and sometimes family, my main focus will be on children. Soon I will be revamping my website, Instagram and Facebook accounts to reflect this change. You won’t see images of maternity or families because that will no longer be my main focus. Not only that, but I plan on developing more of a fine art genre of my children’s photography. It’s not that I don’t enjoy photographing subjects other than children, it’s just that photographing children is my most favorite subject to photograph and I want to pour most of my attention into that. For my long time clients, don’t worry, you are always welcome in front of my lens. That also goes for new clients, just don’t ask me to photograph a wedding or event. You will still receive a no for those requests.
Thirdly, for those who don’t know, I started doing headshots and branding photography about a year or so ago. The reason I started that area of photography was to combat the slow season that inevitably happens every year. You would think that a child photographer wouldn’t have a slow season, especially one who also photographs newborns and babies but we do. After Christmas, parents have already spent a boatload of money on their children for gifts so they aren’t too keen on spending more right of the bat in the beginning of the year. In business, we all need new headshots. Perhaps you changed your hair color, grew a mustache, lost or gained weight. You want to make sure that your headshot actually looks like you. Well I provide those images. In addition, I offer branding which helps entrepreneurs and small business owners create images that will help them market themselves and their businesses to their potential clients via their websites, brochures, business cards or other type or promotions. You may not know about this one because I try to keep it somewhat separate from my children’s photography. If you’re interested, my handle on IG is @brand_you_portraits. I treat it more as a different product line than I do a business but that is likely to change in the near future.
Yes, I know that was a lot but I wanted to share that you are never too old to change or try something new. I don’t consider myself old but I am no spring chicken either. I like to say that I am “seasoned”. Anyway, I do look forward to this new journey that I am on. I can’t wait until I make the changes to my website and brand. It’s all so exciting and I want to share it with you. So, stay tuned.
